Tony and Monique Adams Engagement Video

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Anthony and Monique Adams. I had the honor of being their wedding photographer for their wonderful event on September 3, 2011 held at the Cloisters Castle.

I also did the engagement photo session as well. Monique had made the engagement photos much anticipated by announcing her photo shoot on Facebook. As you can image, all the family and friends were anxious to see them.

I, however, felt that the images were EXTREMELY special and I wanted to premiere the images during their reception. The couple agreed and last night was the first time anyone had seen the presentation. The guests really enjoyed it.

Now, that the event is over, I will now share the engagement video with YOU. Click below and enjoy. Please feel free to comment and show your love to the newlyweds.

Also stay tuned for images from the wedding. An old castle, stained glass windows, doves, falcons, beautiful gowns, and a loving couple – the photo album is bound to be a thing of beauty!

BEAUTIFUL!!!

Selecting a Wedding Photographer

Alter Ego Wedding Shot

Your wedding only lasts one day, but you’ll want to hold onto the pictures forever. Unfortunately, statistics show that many brides take big risks with their memories…by simply not knowing what to look for. To help you select a photographer who will make your wedding story one-of-a-kind, try these suggestions:

  • Interview several photographers. Ask questions about their styles. Most wedding photographers offer either traditional, posed portraits or a candid photojournalism style. Some offer a combination. You should also ask if the photographer specializes in black and white or color photography.
  • Look at samples. Ask to see albums that show wedding coverage from start to finish. This will give you an idea of both the style and quality each photographer provides.
  • Ask about backups. Always ask if the photographer carries back-up equipment. Also, make sure the photographer has a ready replacement who can photograph your wedding if he or she becomes ill.
  • Develop a relationship. Look for a photographer who you are comfortable with. Remember, you are not hiring someone to simply take pictures, but to tell the story of your special day. A skilled professional will want to know about the bride and groom – your personalities and preferences.
  • Communicate. Make sure the photographer has a clear understanding of your expectations. Take the time to sit down and discuss the services provided and the fees involved. This helps avoid any future misunderstandings.
  • Ask about credentials. Membership in a professional association, certification or a photography degree shows a level of commitment to the profession and their photographic art. These types of credentials can help you determine which photographer is right for you.

Photography Tip: What Are You Sticking In My Face?

India Holding the Sekonic L-358 Light MeterWe often take a strange looking device, hold it up to a customer’s face, press a button, and lights start flashing all over the place. We are then asked, “What is that, and will I still be able to have children?” (Well, maybe not the hazardous health part, but definitely why are you sticking this thing in my face). The mystery’s over.

It is a light meter — a Sekonic L-358 light meter to be precise. We use it to measure light intensity so that we can sculpt the lighting on our set and accurately set our camera to take well exposed pictures.

“But I bought a $500 camera and take good pictures all the time!  I don’t need no dang light meter!”  We know, and for the most part, you will continue to have success. There are limits, however.

One of the primary reasons we use it because we often employ multiple lights to illuminate  our subject/scene.  We may have a light for the face, a light for the hair, a lower intensity light for the whole body, and another light on the background. All of the lights are not set to the same intensity (otherwise every picture would look like your driver’s license). The light meter tells us whether the face is as bright as the rest of the body or whether the background is exactly half (1/2)  as bright as the foreground. We call these  “formulas”, and we have a secret book of lighting formulas stored in the same vault as the Coca-Cola recipe.

Because we like our loyal readers, we’ll share one formula with you. Below is an image from Nuaje’s photoshoot with the lovely & talented Ali DiPippo, lead guitarist of Washington DC’s Rome In A Day. Take note of the effect that different lights have on the overall scene.

Hope this sheds some much-needed light on the subject:-)
